Although Komang Ani isn’t originally from Bandung, Indonesia, the city has captured her heart in ways she never expected.
As STAAH’s Business Development Manager, her work often takes her to different places, but Bandung holds a special charm that keeps drawing her back. Here, she shares why Bandung feels like a second home and why it has become one of her favorite cities.
Here are 10 reasons why Komang Ani loves Bandung:
1) The Refreshing Climate: Coming from a much warmer region, Komang immediately fell in love with Bandung’s cool, refreshing climate. The city’s highland location offers a pleasant escape from the tropical heat, making every visit feel like a breath of fresh air—literally.
2) Breathtaking Landscapes: Bandung’s natural beauty is one of the reasons Komang loves returning. Surrounded by mountains, lush tea plantations, and stunning volcanoes, the city offers endless opportunities for nature lovers. Komang especially enjoys her visits to Kawah Putih, a picturesque crater lake, and the scenic tea plantations of Ciwidey.
3) Creative Vibes: Bandung pulses with creativity, and Komang finds the city’s innovative spirit truly inspiring. Whether it’s local artists transforming public spaces with street art or fashion designers setting new trends, Bandung’s creative energy is infectious and keeps her coming back for more.
4) Fashion and Shopping: Bandung is a shopper’s paradise, and Komang loves exploring the city’s famous factory outlets and independent boutiques. Known as the “Paris Van Java,” Bandung is a fashion hub where Komang finds stylish yet affordable clothing, making every shopping trip a delight.
5) Culinary Adventures: Bandung’s food scene is a melting pot of flavors, and Komang loves diving into the city’s culinary delights. From traditional Sundanese cuisine to contemporary street food, Bandung offers a feast for the senses. Komang’s favorites? Batagor and siomay, which she can never resist during her visits.
6) Welcoming Community: Despite not being a local, Komang has always felt at home in Bandung, thanks to the warmth and hospitality of its people. The city’s friendly and welcoming vibe makes her feel like she belongs, no matter how many times she visits.
7) Art Deco Charm: Bandung’s blend of history and modernity fascinates Komang. She enjoys wandering through the city’s Art Deco districts, especially along Braga Street, where the architecture tells stories of Bandung’s colonial past while blending seamlessly with the vibrant energy of modern life.
8) Cozy Cafés Everywhere: Bandung’s café culture is one of Komang’s favorite aspects of the city. Whether she’s sipping on a strong cup of local coffee or trying out a new café in the Dago area, Bandung’s cozy coffee shops are perfect for relaxing, working, or catching up with friends.
9) Quick Nature Getaways: One of the things Komang appreciates most about Bandung is how easy it is to escape to nature. Within a short drive, she can find herself in the serene hills of Lembang, enjoying fresh strawberries or soaking in the hot springs of Ciater—a perfect way to recharge after a busy work week.
10) Youthful Energy: Bandung is a university town, and Komang loves the youthful energy that the students bring to the city. This dynamic atmosphere keeps Bandung feeling fresh and vibrant, with new ideas and creativity blossoming at every corner.
Even though Bandung isn’t where Komang’s story began, it’s a city that has woven itself into the fabric of her life. From the cool climate and creative spirit to the welcoming community, Bandung is a place where Komang feels both inspired and at peace—making it a city she loves to return to, time and time again.
